SECURIT Glass (ESG Tempered Glass) for Barriers
SECURIT glass, the generic term for thermally tempered glass (ESG according to EN 12150 standard), is safety glass used in barriers and partition walls where mechanical strength and safety in case of breakage are critical. This glass is five times stronger than standard annealed glass.
Technical specifications
- Strength: 4 to 5× superior to annealed glass. Withstands thermal shock up to 200°C.
- Breakage behavior: fragments into small non-cutting crystals (EN 12600 standard — minimum 1B1 classification).
- Common thicknesses: 6mm (light partitions), 8mm (standard), 10mm (structural barriers), 12mm (high-stress areas).
- Compliance: European harmonized standard EN 12150-1, mandatory CE marking.
Crowd control applications
- Reception partitions: visual protection between service areas and public.
- Low barriers: balustrades, mezzanine separations, stair barriers.
- Protective screens: cashier desks, counters, service windows in medical or administrative environments.
Difference from other glass types
SECURIT (tempered) glass should not be confused with laminated glass (two sheets assembled with PVB film) which remains in place after breakage.
