Need to temporarily close a hallway, staircase, or secondary access? The wall-mounted belt retractor is the most discreet and quickest solution. No floor post, no obstruction, just a belt that appears on demand.
A compact housing mounts to the wall, containing a retractable belt of 2 to 5 meters. Pull the belt, hook it to the opposite receiver, your hallway is closed in 5 seconds. When you no longer need it, release the hook, the belt retracts automatically.
For technical installation details, see our related article: Wall-mounted retractor with receiver: installation.
Close the hallway of a floor under construction, isolate a private room, signal a slippery staircase. The belt appears on demand without spoiling the decor.
Reserve a confidential meeting area, block an open-space after hours. More discreet than a stretched rope or "No Access" sign.
Close a checkout, isolate a stock area, manage a waiting area. Can be combined with wall-mounted retractors for modular solutions.
Three essential criteria: belt length (measure hallway width + 30 cm margin), retraction force (light for intensive use, strong for reliable automatic retraction), and finish (brushed stainless steel, matte black, white according to decor).
To understand the complete range and choose between housing only or housing+receiver combo, read our Wall-mounted belt retractor: usage guide.
Installation is quick (4 screws and precise alignment) but requires precision. For hallways over 5 meters, a removable intermediate post may be necessary. See our complete professional guidance post guide for hybrid solutions.
Measure the hallway width and add 30 cm margin. For 2 m wide: 2.30 m belt. For 3 m: 3.30 m belt. Most retractors offer 2 m, 3 m, 4 m or 5 m.
Officially no, double-sided tape won't hold the belt tension (up to 8 kg at the stop click). For temporary use, magnetic supports exist for metal walls.
Standard: 90 cm from floor (arm barrier height). For children's use or fall risk area, 75 cm. To close a staircase, align with existing handrail.
For outdoor use, choose a stainless steel or anodized aluminum housing with PVC belt. Avoid chrome (rust) and textile belt (warps in rain).
